Shed to Transform!
Like a medicine stops the creep of a serpent’s venom, they remove anger;
Like water streams off a lotus, they repel lust;
Like a fierce river’s flow is completely dammed dry, they stop craving;
Like floods wash away bridges of grass, they destroy conceit entirely;
Like a seeker of rare flowers on the Udumbara tree, they find no essence in rebirths;
They keep no grudges inwardly, since this “being-not being” has gone beyond;
Within them thoughts no longer smolder, internally they are curtailed completely;
They neither go too far nor lag behind;
They have gone beyond all mind-proliferation;
They are free of greed, lust, hate and delusion;
They are of the world and has known, “all is not thus”;
Within them they have no latent tendencies — whose roots of evil are expunged;
Within them they have no anxiety to cause return to this existence here;
Within them they have no attachments to cause return to all existences;
They leave behind the five hindrances and become serene, having crossed beyond doubt and lack inner barbs;
— Such a Bhikkhu leaves the near and far shore like a snake sheds their skin!
