Koan on Compassion
It is getting late and two Buddhist monks are traveling through a snowy mountain pass. The evening ice is too slick and one falls. Chao-Chou goes over the edge terrified - “HELP ME PLEASE HELP ME!
Cautiously, the other monk makes their way down the mountain to rescue their crying friend… and lays down in snow beside them.
I often think of this koan; it encourages me to ‘sit in the snow with it’ when I don’t know how to help.
May you find peace in your practice.
